THE SEASON OF FALL-ALIGNING CHINESE MEDICINE AND THE CHAKRAS
In Chinese medicine fall is the season of release. Just as trees surrender their leaves, we are invited to let go of what no longer serves us, creating space for renewal and preparing for winter’s inward stillness.
Fall is associated with the lungs and large intestine, the organs that govern both breath and elimination. They teach us about exchange: what we choose to take in, and what we consciously release. When these systems are in balance, we feel clear, open, and resilient. When out of balance, we may feel weighed down by grief, rigidity, or resistance to change.
THE CHAKRA CONNECTION
The wisdom of the Chakras mirrors fall’s themes of transition and release. Three energy centers resonate deeply with this season:
Heart Chakra (Anahata): Grief is often felt here, and fall provides a natural time to process emotions of loss or transition. Supporting this chakra helps us invite acceptance, compassion, and balance into the heart space.
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): As the lungs are emphasized in Chinese medicine during fall, the throat chakra reminds us of the power of breath and authentic expression. When supported, it helps us voice our truth and release what has been held within.
Root Chakra (Muladhara): With seasonal change comes the need for stability. Grounding practices that support the root chakra help us feel anchored, safe, and steady as the energy of fall moves us inward.
Together, these chakras help us move through fall with clarity, strength, and a sense of rooted presence.
SELF-CARE PRACTICES FOR FALL
Fall self-care is about creating rhythm and honoring ritual. Some of the rituals that are most powerful are the ones you might already be drawn to!
A few practices to bring into your season:
Breathe deeply. Practice slow, intentional breathing to nourish the lungs and clear stagnant energy.
Nourish with warmth. Choose soups, roasted vegetables, and teas to strengthen digestion and support the body’s energy.
Practice ritual release. Journal what you are ready to let go of, then burn or bury the page as a symbolic act of release.
Work with oils. Our Accept Chakra Oil, created for the Heart Chakra, offers support for grief with its soothing aroma. Applying it over the chest before meditation or journaling creates a tender space for acceptance. Or consider our Affirm Chakra oil with its fresh and purifying energy. Apply it to the chest or throat before breath work.
Stay grounded. Our Ground Foot and Body Oil or Ground Pillow Mist can be woven into evening rituals to anchor the spirit and steady the energy of transition.
Honor the rhythm of rest. Begin winding down earlier each evening. Fall encourages us to mirror nature’s slower pace and prepare for the stillness ahead.
THE INVITATION OF FALL
Fall reminds us that letting go is not about loss—it is about transformation. By releasing, we create space for what is yet to come. Aligning with the season through breath, grounding rituals, and Chakra care helps us navigate the waves of change with compassion and balance.
